About

My most favorite novel of all time is Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables. I consider it a treasure trove of wisdom and, particularly in the character of Jean Valjean, enlightened guidance for living a principled life. For a number of years I have had in mind a desire to write my own personal reflections on themes drawn from the novel. The entries in this blog, “The Wisdom of Les Miserables,“ are the fruit of that intellectual and literary desire. I hope you will find what I write of interest to you and, in some way, helpful in living a life of personal integrity and service to others.
Source: The quotes and page references used in my essays are from Charles E. Wilbour’s translation from the French (1862), as found in the Modern Library (New York) edition.

Al, I’m impressed – not only with the site but with the philosophy and thought it contains. I also now know better a close friend and fellow author. Please continue. While many of us may differ in the details or “how to” we all must pursue love, justice, honesty, and pursuit of freedom for all whether native born or others seeking the land that promises these rewards to those willing to work for, and if necessary, fight for them.
–Warm Regards,
Jack
